Drap-Art'16. The International Festival of Recycling Art of Catalonia will be held from 16 to 31 December 2016, at the Center for Contemporary Culture, CCCB, Macba, Arts Santa Mònica, Plaza Real, Plaza dels Angels and La Rambla.
The collective exhibition Drap-Arte'16 is a curated show of the most outstanding pieces of Drap-Art's 20-year history, of 68 artists and more than 120 artworks, which were already showcased at the Re: New Festival in Pittsburgh, USA. The show will be open to the public from 16 to 30 December, in Sala -1, at the CCCB, from 11 am to 8 pm. On Mondays (excepting holidays) and December 25, it will be closed. On 24, 26 and 31 December, it will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The first weekend of the festival, on 16, 17 and 18 December, there will also be a marathon of live creation in commemoration of the Marathon of Creation and Recycling of Barcelona, with which Drap-Art began its activities, 20 years ago, in the Hall of the CCCB, from 11 am to 10 pm.
In the same space there will be workshops, music and performances and on Saturday at 7pm the Montevideo-Pittsburgh-Barcelona Fashion Show, to celebrate the internationalization of Drap-Art in 2016. Among the confirmed artists we can mention LUVE, Sienta la Cabeza, Dj Halsen # 1, and Eli Gras. Among the workshops we can highlight the Drones created from trash by José Goñi.
In addition there will be a debate on Territory and Art, with occasion of the presentation of Plataforma Vértices and the Ibero-American working nodes. The visual history of the experiences in territory of the artists and groups that make up the network's space of creation. Participants are Miquel Planas, artist and professor of the University of Barcelona, the photographers Consuelo Bautista and Magdalena Correa, the artists Pamela Martínez, Ignacio Rodríguez, Anna Recasens and Thomas Nölle, as well as the curators and cultural managers Claudia Gianetti, María Paz Montecinos and Jorge Pique. Aula CED, Macba, on 16 December, from 6 to 8pm.
This debate will be linked to the SEA-STORM installation by Thomas Nölle in Sala-1, which discusses the influence of human activity on the marine environment. It is a collaboration with the project MARVIVA of the Waste Agency of Catalonia.
The German artist Stephanie Senge will perform an intervention in public space. The Demonstration-Procession of consumption with a soul that asks us to be gods and goddesses, to use the power of transformation that we have as consumers, in these days of Christmas consumption. With the collaboration of the Goethe Institut, kick-off will be on 23 December, at noon, with a drink at its starting point, the Arts Santa Mònica terrace, from 11 am to noon, and go up La Rambla, it will stop at Plaza Real and La Boqueria Market, where there will be discussion about food waste and alimentary sovereignty, then it will go on to Elisabets street and end at plaza dels Angels with a ceremony of gratitude.
The Demonstration will be prepared in a workshop, which will reflect on consumption, the waste we produce and what we do with it, while working on the creation of slogans, posters and banners to be used in the Demonstration. It will be held at Arts Santa Mònica, from the 20 to the 22, from 6pm to 9pm, and is open to participation. Inscriptions can be made at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The traditional Christmas Market Drap-Art will be held from 23 to 30 December, in the Plaza Real, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. There will be a creative recycling workshop every day. The first workshop will be to create Christmas trees made of cardboard and newspaper and the second on the 24th, creating Christmas reindeer wine corks. The workshops are free and will be done every day from 12 a.m. to 2 p.m.
