The year 2021 begins with a series of very interesting international calls to which we want to feature in our News, with the confidence that they may be of interest to you.
COAL ART AND ENVIRONMENT PRIZE, FRANCE
COAL, the Coalition for Art and Sustainable Development, has opened the call for its COAL Prize, dedicated in this edition o the crucial issue of forests at the center of the climate crisis and ecological transition. Faced with a situation as complex as it is urgent, the COAL Prize 2021 once again invites artists from around the world to mobilize and reveal a world still alive, to feel and experience the ecological balance of forests, to promote the diversity of beings and cultures that inhabit them, to revive their ancestral knowledge and give birth to new ones, to nourish the movements of resilience they inspire, and above all, to act with the protectors of nature.

INVENTING AND DESIGNING CIRCULAR FLOWS – RESIDENCY, GERMANY
Kunst-Stoffe – Zentralstelle für wiederverwendbare Materialien (Center for Reusable Materials) in Berlin, with whom Drap-Art has been collaborating for years, together with the Akademie für Suffizienz (Academy of Sufficiency) in Reckenthin are offering residencies for artists working with circular energies, not as an allegory, but as a practical model. Circular economies, circular societies, visions of our present. They want to offer an opportunity and a space to analyze what prevents us from doing justice and carrying out this phenomenon. The call is aimed at artists working in the field of sustainability and economics.
They offer:
- Accommodation, allowances and space to work in the rural surroundings of the Akademie für Suffizienz. A single room, space to create, workshops and all the basic elements for working will be provided. Also reusable materials for the theme of the call “Inventing and designing circular flows” will be provided by Kunst-Stoffe.
- The organization of an open exhibition during the residency (August 8).
- A group exhibition at “Im Grünen Bereich” in Berlin. The selected pieces created during the residency can be seen at the show, from August 12 to August 22, 2021.

THE UPCYCLING ART PRIZE, GERMANY
The Zentrum für Zikuläre Kunst ZZK (Center for Circular Art) in Lüdz, near Berlin, is holding its Upcycling Art Prize for the first time.
The aim of the award is to promote individual projects that work with existing materials. Since modernity, art has welcomed and used materials from our day to day to reduce the distance between life and art, provide the pieces with various levels of reading, create contexts. In addition, we join the global upcycling movement that combines the reuse of available materials and the promotion of a circular ecological process, giving them other uses and other lives. We also want to create an interconnected platform of artists, designers and creatives enthusiastic about the idea of transforming waste into a resource.
