OCEAN SOLE INTERVENTION – THREE RIVERS ARTS FESTIVAL
From June 7 to 16, 2019
GATEWAY CENTER, PITTSBURGH
In 2019 Drap-Art returns to Pittsburgh, this time with a large installation by the Ocean Sole, a Kenyan non-profit organisation that draws attention to the pollution of the seas and at the same time gives work to artists and artisans from their country. They specialise in carving animals from flip flops collected on the beach. We placed a herd of giraffes (a 4.5m high giraffe, a 2.5m tall giraffe and two 2m tall ones) on the grass in the festival art market area, an elephant and a turtle. at the entrance of the market and the rhino was changing location, with a challenge to find it. Everyone liked it a lot and it generated a lot of activity on social media.
Ocean Sole, in addition to many artisans, employs 7 artists specializing in the creation of large format pieces or Master Pieces. One of them, the young Masai Jonathan Lenato, came to Pittsburgh to finish assembling the pieces on site.
